How To Navigate The Exhibit
Exhibit Layout
Each each student in HIST 6127 -- spring semester 2025 conducted an interview with one of Alice's friends or family members. We have organized the exhibit around these interviews, and the entirety of the interview is available on each exhibit page through a digital oral history platform called the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer, or OHMS. The OHMS browser allows you to look through and even search the full text transcripts, and it will take you to any point in the oral history with a mouse click. This is very cool, because previously one would have to listen in real time through an oral history recording just to see if a given topic was mentioned.
So, let's say you're interested in "Africa". You can put that, or any desired search word, in the OHMS viewer on a given exhibit page and see if that oral history interview contains that word; if it does, click on it and the viewer will take you to that moment in the interview.
The rest of each exhibit page features quotes that we've highlighed from each interview, along with images and digitized objects from her collection at the Griot Museum. We hope you enjoy exploring her life and legacy. We surely did!
