Title: Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School
Description: Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School is an urban Catholic high school, founded in 1979 that serves a largely African American student body of many faiths. Its stated mission is to provide an education that prepares students for leadership roles in a multi-ethnic society. Cardinal Ritter has gained national attention for having black men make up 40% of the teachers and administrators at the school. This is remarkable in itself as nationwide, black men make up approximately 2% of educators nationwide. Cardinal Ritter is also unique in that it has a 100% graduation and college admission record. Having strong, black male role models is particularly important for young black men, who tend to have lower graduation rates than black women and white students.
