JeffVanderLou Neighborhood
In a few sentences, describe what you imagine in this location to bring hope.
This site is hopeful because the neighborhood is a work in progress. This was once a thriving black neighborhood which now faces disinvestment and has been hit hard by natural disasters like the tornado. Yet there are several people who are working hard to turn the neighborhood around. Urban farming and housing cooperative are reimagining what is possible for the neighborhood. This site represents hope in progress, where the barriers to success are met with a bold vision for the future. The community surrounding the neighborhood include environmental justice groups, the local residents and the community developers, all working to make a positive change. One thing that really stood out to me are the murals that were painted on the boarded-up buildings.
