From the second half of the nineteenth to the mid 20th century, Mill Creek Valley had a regular spot in St. Louis news outlets. Outside coverage by white newspapers, such as those seen here from 1886 and 1955, continually created a negative portrait of Mill Creek, and paid little attention to what caused the neighborhood's struggles. However, these newspapers do not illustrate what real life in Mill Creek looked like.
The white newspaper, the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, analyses the economic conditions of Mill Creek Valley in 1886
