Dumas School: General View of May Festival
- Title
- Dumas School: General View of May Festival
- Description
- Despite poor facilities and discrimination, students and teachers found academic success and advocated for equal opportunities, such as giving the school a name instead of a number. The school was renamed Dumas Elementary after a French writer in 1890. The community also enjoyed school traditions, such as May Day. Kindergarten students were featured celebrating the holiday in the St. Louis Post Dispatch in 1888. Pictured here are students celebrating May Day in 1937.
