St. Louis Rent Strike
- Title
- St. Louis Rent Strike
- Description
- The St. Louis Rent Strike began in February 1969 when rent was significantly increased in November of the year before and many housing units were demolished for the purpose of creating highway ramps and other buildings. This hurt the low income families that resided in Mill Creek Valley and ultimately caused many to lose their homes. Even after the urbanization of downtown St. Louis, many Mill Creek Valley residents struggled with homelessness and relied on community organizations to live and build better lives for themselves.
