- Title
- Eugene Field House
- Description
- Former home to Roswell Field, pro-bono attorney to Dred Scott in his struggle to free himself and his wife Harriet from slavery in the legal arena in 1856-1857, this building stands as a testament to people that would not be oppressed because of their race without a struggle. Historians have cited the Dred Scott decision as a contributor to the unrest leading to the American Civil War. It also stands to reason that those with more privilege can play crucial roles in potentially turning the tide against systemic racism.
