- Description
- Gabouri Creek served as a source of life and death for French Colonials living in Ste. Genevieve. Colonists ventured past Gabouri creek daily on their way to the Common Field known as Le Grand Champ. It flooded the soil with rich nutrients, creating a perfect environment for agriculture. Unfortunately, on occasion, rising floodwaters gave way to the town's destruction and caused the displacement of many families. Thus, urging the town to move further from the nearby creek and Mississippi River.
