Female Other Samples from NBM · WRSTL PLACE

Title: Female Other Samples from NBM
Description: In this short clip, you experience the sound of female vocalists, who used the power of their voices and the pain and experiences of their lives, to craft moving and haunting tunes. The intersection of gospel, ballads and barroom singing gave poor black women an outlet for sharing their experiences, sorrow and pain, when more traditional expression (writing especially) was not available to them. The early performers also blazed the way for pop female vocalists with soaring voices and powerful delivery.
