Title
If You’re In A Country That’s Progressive, The Women Is Progressive’: Black Women Radicals And The Making Of The Politics And Legacy Of Malcolm X
Description
Essay on the importance of women on the intellectual and political development and legacy of Malcolm X. Black women radicals and political leaders include Vicki Garvin, Louise Little, Betty Shabazz, Queen Mother Audley Moore, Maya Angelou, and Alice Windom.
“The impact of black women radicals in shaping the life and legacy of Malcolm X constitutes one of the most significant gaps in the study of this key figure of the post-World War II Black Freedom Movement. For the most part, the biographies of Malcolm X have either neglected or marginalized— and even plagiarized—the voices of revolutionary women who were formative in the radicalization of Malcolm X and critical in keeping his legacy alive.”
