Bringing Life to the Stage!

An important part of student social life is entertainment and what is more entertaining than a theatrical performance? Since its establishment there have been a variety of performances put on by students to both participate in and enjoy the Fine Arts on the stage!

UMSL has been the host of many performances put on by both students and outside performers since its founding in the 1960s to today. Many student performances were performed  by the University Players Club, a student-run organization at UMSL during the 60s and 70s. The Unviersity Programs Board also organized theatrical performances like the showing of the Royal Shakespeare Company's production "The Hollow Crown " in 1975. UMSL also had groups that would participate in Opera Theater and would hold workshops for students to hone their skills.

The performing arts have played an active role in the life of many students as both an option for entertainment but also as a form of artistic expression.  Today the performing arts can be found and experienced by students in both the University's curriculum with classes and degrees being offered in both cinema and theater, and at the Touhill Performing Arts Center constructed in 2003.
