UMSL Orchestra
Bringing the Symphony to the Community
Life at University of Missouri-St. Louis includes a variety of cultural and diverse expereinces for students and faculty alike to enjoy. One such expereince would be the orchestral concerts put on by the University and with the cooperation of multple orchestras for the student body and the surrounding community.
Two orchestra groups that performed at UMSL were the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Kammergild Chamber Orchestra. The Kammergild Chamber Orchestra is a professional chamber orchestra that through an agreement at UMSL, became housed at UMSL in the early 80s. The orchestra was under the direction of Lasar Gosman, an associate concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. (Source: The Current, Issue 366, Page 4. Published March 20, 1980)
The Kammergild Chamber Orchestra brough various compositions from other countries like France and Italy, which introduced students to unique musical compositions of other cultures and styles. To this day, the musical tradition of the orchestra is alive and well on campus through UMSL's Symphony Orchestra, continuing the community introduction and experience of orchestral music. Some examples are Mozart's Piano Concerto K271 in E flat, Handel's Concerto Grosso No. 4 Opus 12, and Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence. (Source: The Current, Issue 366, Page 4.
